Population Health Research Institute (PHRI)

Population Health Research Institute (PHRI)

PHRI’s dynamic research environment encourages the integration of multidisciplinary skills. This results in a multifaceted approach, with studies often crossing over several programs and themes, providing a unique, in depth perspective which few other organizations can achieve. For example, Neglected Diseases are studied by teams in the Prevention Program, the Global Health Program, the Biobank and the Knowledge Translation Program.

  • Prevention and Diabetes

    • Primary prevention
      • To modify risk factors or prevent their development with the aim of delaying or preventing CHD
    • Secondary prevention
      • Early detection and management of pre-symptomatic disease.
    • Neglected diseases – tertiary prevention
      • Prevention of disease progression and attendant suffering once symptoms are identified clinically and diagnosis is established e.g.: CHAGAS disease, Cardiac TB
    • Diabetes
      • Primary and Secondary Prevention
  • Global Health

    • Identification of risk factors
      • Modifiable risk factors
    • Health systems, policy and practice
      • Use of primary and secondary preventions.
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)

    • Management of acute MI
      • Anti-thrombotics after STEMI / Non-STEMI
  • Arrhythmias
