In response to a recent request to support the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) budget ask to the Canadian Federal Government, a joint letter from Dr. Frank Naus (Vice President of Research) and Dr.  Yusuf (Chief Scientist) was written to Prime Minister Trudeau.

This letter expresses concern for the serious state of health research in Canada and the impact if cutbacks continue. More importantly, it shares two key strategies on how best to galvanize health research in Canada. The first discusses a dire and immediate need to increase government investment commitments for CIHR. The second addresses a balanced organizational structure to support generating and testing ideas that are fundamental both from basic sciences and population sciences.

Dr. Naus is encouraging investigators at Hamilton Health Sciences to lend support to this extremely important issue by writing letters in support.
