Dr. Mark Levine is a member of the Order of Canada for his contributions towards improving the lives of cancer patients at home and abroad!
Dr. Levine, an Oncologist, Chair of the Department of Oncology, and Professor in the Departments of Oncology and Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics at McMaster University, holds the Buffett Taylor Chair in Breast Cancer Research. In 1982, Dr. Levine helped to establish the Ontario Clinical Oncology Group (OCOG), and co-founded the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute, a world-renowned centre that combines leading science with excellence in patient care.
His research and large clinical trials led to the development of a number of new treatment regimens and improvements to existing treatments that are the Canadian standard in clinical practice. His guidelines for improving doctor-patient communications resulted in more comprehensive conversations around the risks and benefits of treatment options.
The ceremony at which Dr. Levine will be awarded his Order of Canada insignia will be held at a later date.
