Congratulations to Dr. May Cohen, leader in women’s health and Dr. Gordon Guyatt, a pioneer of Evidence-based medicine (EBM), for becoming new Inductees into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame!
“Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureates are individuals whose outstanding contributions to medicine and the health sciences have led to extraordinary improvements in human health. Their work may be a single meritorious contribution or a lifetime of superior accomplishments. Pioneers in their field, they are role models and an inspiration to young Canadians to pursue careers in the health sciences”.
Dr. May Cohen has been an unstoppable force in support of change in women’s health in Ontario for decades. Dr. Cohen founded the first faculty of Medicine Women’s Health Office in Canada in 1991 (upon her arrival to McMaster University). Since that time, thanks to Dr. Cohen, many changes and improvements have taken place in women’s health for both female medical students and female patients in Ontario.
Dr. Gordon Guyatt, leading developer of the concept of Evidence based medicine (EBM) and a Professor of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics at McMaster University, Dr. Guyatt has contributed to EBM curricula in residency programs and medical schools internationally. Dr. Guyatt joined the medical faculty at McMaster in 1983 where he forged ahead with enormous advancements in the assessment of health-related quality of life.
The Induction ceremony will be held in association with McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences on April 14th, 2016 at the Hamilton Convention Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.
