It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Katie Porter as Director, Research Administration for Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (HHSC)!
Katie has been a valued member of the HHSC Research Admin Contracts Team since 2010, becoming its Manager in 2013. Since 2011, Katie has been a voting member of the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board, a role she unfortunately had to relinquish when she became Interim Director, Research Administration on December 1, 2014.
Prior to joining HHSC, Katie was a Contracts Analyst for McMaster University and a Study Coordinator at the University of Toronto. Prior to her administrative career Katie was a professional soprano, singing main stage roles at companies across Canada and the US.
Katie has two Masters Degrees, including an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and a Master of Music from Boston University. She lectures in the McMaster Certified Clinical Research Associate Program and has won Excellence Awards from the Canadian Association of University Administrators and the Society of Research Administrators International. Her list of external speaking engagements on topics ranging from “Risk Mitigation in Clinical Research”, “Walk a Mile in Your PI’s Shoes”, and “Steer Your Career”, include the CAURA National Conference, lectures at the Humber Institute of Technology, and the Society of Research Administrators International Conference. Katie regularly hosts webinars on topics related to research administration and she is a regular columnist for the Society of Research Administrators Catalyst. In 2011, she co-authored the book, “Steer Your Career: A Research Administrators Manual for Mapping Success,” now used as a textbook for the University of South Central Florida’s Master of Research Administration degree.
Please join me in welcoming Katie to her new role!
